Managing an NDIS plan involves a lot more than most people expect. Between tracking invoices, paying providers, monitoring budgets and staying on top of your funding categories, the administrative side of the NDIS can quickly become overwhelming. That is where professional plan management comes in, and for participants and families across Hobart, having a knowledgeable local team in your corner makes a real difference.
Whether you are newly approved for the NDIS, reviewing your current arrangements, or simply wondering whether plan management is right for you, this guide walks you through everything you need to know.
Plan management is a funded support category within the NDIS that pays for a registered plan manager to handle the financial administration of your plan on your behalf. Think of it as having a dedicated financial coordinator who looks after the numbers so you can focus on your goals and your life.
A plan manager sits between you, your providers and the NDIS. They receive invoices from your support providers, check them for accuracy, process claims through the NDIS portal, and make payments on your behalf. They also keep track of your spending across each budget category and provide you with regular statements so you always know where your funding stands.
Importantly, plan management is funded separately from your other supports. Choosing plan management does not reduce the funding available for your disability-related supports.
Our Hobart-based plan management team provides a comprehensive service that covers every aspect of your NDIS financial administration. Here is what that includes in practice:
We handle the paperwork. You focus on what matters.
Choosing plan management over other funding management options comes with some significant practical advantages.
Greater provider choice. When your plan is managed by a registered plan manager, you can generally use both registered and unregistered NDIS providers (where your plan permits this). This opens up a wider pool of local supports across Hobart and surrounds.
Reduced administrative burden. You do not need to pay invoices yourself, track claim submissions or manage NDIS portal access. Your plan manager handles all of that.
Budget visibility. Regular statements give you and your family a clear, up-to-date picture of your spending. You can see exactly how much funding remains in each category and plan accordingly.
Financial oversight. Having a professional review every invoice before payment provides a layer of protection against billing errors, overcharging or fraudulent claims.
Support without losing control. Plan management gives you professional financial support while you retain full choice and control over which providers you work with and what supports you receive.
These two types of support are often confused, and understandably so. They both help participants navigate the NDIS, but they serve quite different purposes.
Plan management is focused entirely on the financial side of your plan. Your plan manager processes invoices, pays providers, submits claims and monitors your budget. They do not arrange or coordinate your supports.
Support coordination is focused on helping you build and navigate your support network. A support coordinator helps you find providers, set up service agreements, work towards your goals and resolve any issues that arise with your supports.
Some participants have both supports funded in their plan, and the two services work well together. If you are unsure which supports are included in your plan, your NDIS planner or local area coordinator can clarify this for you.
When one of your providers sends an invoice, here is how the process works with our team:
We aim to process approved invoices promptly, and we will always contact you if there is a query or if something on an invoice does not look right before proceeding.
One of the most common questions we hear is whether choosing plan management will eat into the funding set aside for supports. The answer is no.
Plan management is funded through a separate line item in your NDIS plan, within the Improved Life Choices support category. This funding is specifically allocated to cover the cost of your plan manager's services. It does not come out of your Core or Capacity Building budgets.
If plan management is not already included in your current plan, you can request it at your next plan review. Your planner or local area coordinator can include it as a new support.
There are national plan managers available, but working with a local team in Hobart has genuine practical benefits.
We understand the local provider landscape. We know the community-based services, allied health providers, support workers and specialist providers operating across Hobart and greater Tasmania. That local knowledge helps us respond more meaningfully when questions arise about your budget or your providers.
We are also accessible. When you have a question about an invoice or want to talk through your budget, you can speak with someone who knows your plan, knows the local context and is available to help.
Our team brings together financial expertise and genuine understanding of the NDIS, and we take our compliance and privacy obligations seriously. Your financial information is handled with care and in accordance with NDIS and Australian privacy requirements.
Getting started is straightforward, whether you are new to the NDIS or moving across from another plan manager.
If plan management is already in your plan: Contact us and we will guide you through a simple onboarding process. We will ask for a copy of your plan, set up your account and reach out to your providers with our payment details.
If you want to change plan managers: You have the right to change plan managers at any time. There is no need to wait for a plan review. We handle most of the transition process and will liaise with your current plan manager to ensure a smooth handover with no gap in service.
If plan management is not yet in your plan: Raise it at your next plan review or contact your local area coordinator to discuss adding it. We are happy to provide you with information you can take to that meeting.
If plan management is not currently funded in your plan, you will generally need to wait until your next plan review or request a plan reassessment to have it added. Your local area coordinator can advise whether a reassessment is appropriate in your circumstances.
Yes. You can change plan managers at any time without waiting for a plan review. Simply notify your current plan manager in writing and get in touch with us to begin the transition. We will coordinate with your outgoing plan manager to ensure continuity.
No. Plan management fees are paid from a dedicated line item in your NDIS plan under the Improved Life Choices category. They do not reduce your Core or Capacity Building funding.
We aim to process and pay approved invoices as quickly as possible once claims are submitted to the NDIS. If there is a query with an invoice, we will contact you and the provider to resolve it before payment proceeds.
Yes. Plan management actually gives you greater flexibility over provider choice. You can generally use both registered NDIS providers and unregistered providers (where your plan permits), which broadens the range of local Hobart supports available to you.
We monitor your budget regularly and will alert you if your spending is tracking above what your funding will support. We can help you review your service agreements and plan for the remainder of your plan period so you are not caught short.
Finding the right Registered NDIS Provider can change everything. Whether you need daily living assistance, supported independent living (SIL), or short-term accommodation (STA), our caring team is here to help you every step of the way.
We’ll listen, plan together, and deliver the support that truly fits your lifestyle and goals. Let’s make your NDIS journey smooth, transparent, and empowering.
